- VOLUNTEERING AT
JACIL
- ...................
- Thanks to the hard work of volunteers,
newsletters are copied, collated, stapled, labeled, and stamped
for mailing each month. Our newsletter is produced into regular
print, large print, Braille, and can also be sent to subscribers
by e-mail. We have volunteers who help out with other types of
mailings as well.
We have a lot of volunteers who answer our phones and greet visitors
to JACIL.
Volunteers assist with clerical type duties such as proofreading,
folding brochures, and data entry.
Volunteers help with odd jobs around the office, including changing
light bulbs and fixing things.
Other duties preformed by volunteers include acting as mentors
to people with disabilities, assisting with support/activity
groups and workshops, performing clerical duties, reading grocery
ads onto tape for those with visual disabilities, dressing up
our display windows, assisting with presenting disability awareness
activities to the community, participating in parades, helping
with voting projects, and much more.
-
- There are many ways to e of
service to us as a volunteer. Please check any of the links below
to learn more about ways to assist us with our miassion.

- CLERICAL POSITIONS
One of the major functions Volunteers serve at JACIL is that
of clerical help. Each month JACIL produces and distributes hundreds
of newsletters and other mass mailings. Volunteers can do anything
from answer phones to stuff envelopes, staple pages or fold newsletters.
These are only the tasks performed on a daily basis. Special
projects, help in the resource library, filing, and data entry
are also jobs that clerical volunteers may do.
-
- Clerical Volunteers play a vital
role in helping JACIL run smoothly.

- WORKSHOPS
& SUPPORT GROUPS
Another type of Volunteerism at JACIL are the workshop and support
group helpers. JACIL offers several programs designed to help
our consumers learn the skills they need to live more independent
lives. Volunteers can help out in the workshop setting as aides
to the presenter or sometimes even as presenters themselves.
-
- JACIL also sponsors support
groups for persons with disabilities. We encourage any volunteeers
with disabilities to join our support groups. Please enquire
as to what groups JACIL is currently offering.

- CONSUMER
ASSISTANCE
Another vital kind of volunteerism at JACIL is consumer assistance.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with
JACIL consumers. Some of the things volunteers may be doing are
reading for a blind person or even drivng for a person who otherwise
would be unable to participate in frequent community activities.
-
- The regularity of this type
of volunteerism is set up between the consumer and the volunteer.

- OTHER
POSITIONS
If you wish to volunteer services other than those mentioned,
contact JACIL today! We are always interested in having volunteers
on our staff helping out in their own unique ways.
-
- Some examples of other types
of volunteerism include painting and light office repairs such
as changing light bulbs and repairing wallpaper.
-
- JACIL also recruits volunteers
to help build wheelchair accessible ramps in the community.
